Today’s story is from Lucky Dog’s Rescue @ldrct (Facebook) and tells the story of the face of their rescue organization, Halo.
A desperate discovery
In the heart of the dense woods, a pit bull named Halo was discovered, abandoned and alone. She was nothing more than a fragile skeleton, her body weak and emaciated. She was abused, used for breeding, starved, and dumped in the forest like a discarded piece of trash.
Luckily Stacy, a kind-hearted rescuer, stumbled upon her and immediately felt a surge of compassion.
Approaching Halo gently, Stacy whispered, “Hello, sweetheart.” Halo, curled up in a ball, seemed ready to give up on life. Determined to change her fate, Stacy asked, “Are you ready to get out of here?”
With great care, Stacy lifted the fragile Halo and carried her away from the desolate woods. Halo’s body trembled with hunger, and Stacy knew she needed food urgently. She guided Halo towards the car, hoping to provide her some relief.
Road to recovery
During the journey, Stacy noticed something was wrong with Halo’s back leg. Despite the pain, Halo followed Stacy, eagerly gobbling up the food offered along the way. Stacy named her “Halo” in the hope that she would find the strength to overcome her struggles.
Once they arrived home, Stacy made sure Halo received proper medical attention. The vet prescribed antibiotics and provided Halo with nourishing meals. Each day was a battle, but Halo’s determination to survive was awe-inspiring.
As Halo’s strength gradually returned, she bonded with Stacy. Stacy showered Halo with love and care, giving her a safe space to heal. The vet confirmed that Halo was partially blind, relying on shadows and guidance to navigate her surroundings.
With patience and gentle guidance, Stacy taught Halo to adapt. Together, they faced each obstacle and triumphed. Halo’s resilience and intelligence amazed everyone around her. She quickly learned to trust and embraced the love she had never experienced before.

She has quickly adapted to the daily routines, preferring the couch with the TV on for entertainment rather than the radio.
Nights are filled with snuggles and reassurance, as Halo and her parents sleep together, offering comfort in times of restlessness. In the mornings, Halo playfully clings to her parents’ fingers, not wanting them to leave for work.
