Today’s rescue story is a heartwarming tale of survival and motherhood, a stray dog named Summer was recently found in the woods, begging for food in a small town. Residents in the area knew her well, and it was soon discovered that she had been abandoned by people from another town.
Despite her challenging circumstances, Summer managed to survive on the streets for four months.
The incredible journey of a mother dog: walking 5km multiple times a day to feed her puppies
One day, a lady who often gave Summer food noticed that the dog appeared to be losing weight. She had a suspicion that Summer might have puppies, and sure enough, she soon found seven precious pups cuddled up together in the woods.
Summer had been making several trips every day, walking five kilometers each way to breastfeed her pups and return to the town to beg for food.
It was clear that she was an amazing mother, but as the weather grew colder, the Korean Animal Welfare Association knew they had to take action to rescue the pups.
Operation summer rescue: a mum and her seven precious pups
Operation Summer Rescue began with the team luring her with nutritious and delicious snacks.
Through the use of nutritious and delicious snacks, the team was able to lure Summer and her puppies to safety. Summer showed some hesitation at first but soon cooperated.
The team managed to rescue all seven puppies and ensure they were in good health with a thorough examination by a vet.
During the examination, it was found that while Summer was skinny, her kidney, liver, and pancreas were all functioning correctly. However, her skin was affected by the unhygienic and rough terrain where she lived.
Despite this, Summer was estimated to be only around one year old and had been tirelessly walking 30-60 kilometers a day to care for her pups.
