Enjoy rescued stray pup Akbash Betty’s heartwarming adoption story

Today’s tear-jerking rescue story is that of pup Betty.ย  Finding a furever home is a dream come true for any shelter dog, and the adorable Akbash dog, Betty, is no exception.

Betty was found hiding in a tree near a busy road in Temple, Texas, in December 2022, and was rescued by Joy Bastow, co-founder of animal rescue service Healing Hearts Rehab.

Betty’s Happy Zoomies

Betty’s joyful zoomies upon being adopted by her new family have melted hearts online. In a heartwarming video shared by Bastow on TikTok, Betty can be seen dashing around the animal shelter with her tail wagging happily.

The former stray playfully jumps up on shelter workers before zooming back and forth across the room.

Betty’s New Home

Betty’s new family has four acres of land where she can run and play. According to Bastow, Betty is “dog, cat, kid, and livestock friendly,” making her a true pleasure to be around.

Her new owners are even training her to protect their sheep, a task for which the Akbash breed is known for excelling at.

Betty’s Rescue and Rehabilitation

When Betty was rescued, she was suffering from a severe vaginal prolapse, which the vet said was likely caused by hormones during a heat cycle and straining.

She also had anemia, a urinary tract infection, an elevated white blood cell count, and hookworms in her intestines.

Thanks to the care and love provided by Healing Hearts Rehab, Betty received surgery to fix the prolapse, as well as antibiotics and vaccinations.
