Today’s rescue story is about Legend, a Doberman in distress, was flagged for euthanasia at a high capacity shelter when Illinois Doberman Rescue (IDR) received a call for help. Upon arrival, Legend was in worse shape than anyone could have anticipated, with a large growth on his hind end and a fever.
What followed was a harrowing journey of discovery and care that highlighted the best of human compassion.
Dramatic discovery
Upon arrival at Plainfield Vet Clinic, Legend’s condition was worse than expected. He was not putting weight on his left rear leg and right front leg, and he was biting and self-mutilating the growth.
Legend’s temperature was high and he had significant soft tissue swelling. He is now undergoing extensive testing and treatment to uncover the root of his illness, including X-rays and bloodwork.
Although he has been placed on pain medication, Legend is struggling to walk, and his condition is deteriorating rapidly.
Since then, Legend has undergone specialty care at the clinic and has had multiple rounds of testing and treatment.
Unfortunately, further testing revealed BBs in his left thigh area, indicating he had been shot with a BB gun.ย Legend is on medication and pain relief as he continues to fight for his life.
How you can help
IDR is seeking help from the community to offer Legend the best possible medical care and a chance at recovery. As a nonprofit organization, donations can be made directly to them to assist with Legend’s treatment.
The story of Legend is a testament to the power of compassion and perseverance, with many people coming together to help one dog in need. While the outcome is uncertain, the love and care shown to Legend have given him a fighting chance.
