Rescue stories embody second chances and compassion. Sancho, a Chihuahua mix with uncontrolled diabetes, faced a grim fate. However, thanks to a devoted vet, he not only survived but found a loving home.
Sancho’s failing health
Sancho, a 12-year-old Chihuahua, was diagnosed with diabetes, a chronic condition his family was unaware of.
As his diabetes worsened, his body suffered from ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition. His health plummeted, leading to a seizure and cardiac arrest.
Revived by veterinary staff, Sancho’s condition stabilized, but his owner tragically passed away. Grateful for the care he received, the owner’s daughter asked a vet to adopt him.
Melissa Ogg, DVM, stepped forward, offering Sancho a loving home.
Sancho’s happy life
Sancho thrives in his new home. His diabetes is controlled, and he enjoys mealtimes and neighborhood walks. He brings joy to his adoptive family and cherishes their companionship.
Sancho’s story highlights the importance of monitoring pets’ health as they age. Early detection of diabetes is crucial.
Pet owners should be attentive to changes in behavior and appetite and consult with veterinarians.
