Poodles Rescued from Grooming School in China with Their Vocal Cords Removed

TikTok Craze for Dog Grooming Sparks Cruelty

Animal rescue is an important effort undertaken by individuals and organizations around the world to save animals from cruelty, neglect, and abuse.

It involves taking in animals that have been mistreated or abandoned and providing them with food, shelter, medical care, and a chance for a better life.

From dogs and cats to farm animals and wildlife, animal rescue takes many forms, and the dedicated people who work in this field often face enormous challenges in their mission to help these vulnerable creatures.

In this short article, we will discuss a recent animal rescue effort involving a group of poodles in China.ย  Source: express.co.uk

In China, the TikTok craze for dog grooming has led to scores of salons popping up that keep poodles and other breeds on-site for customers to emulate their favourite influencer’s styles.

However, this trend has also led to many dogs being subjected to horrific abuse.

A grooming school abandoned almost 50 poodles at a meat market in China after they had undergone a cruel throat procedure that removed their vocal cords, leaving them unable to bark.

Grooming Schools for Dogs Inspired by Social Media

As the demand for the “teddy bear” style dog grooming trend increased, many Chinese dog grooming schools started opening up to teach students how to replicate the popular styles seen on social media.

These schools keep a stock of dogs for customers to practice on. However, if the dogs are no longer of use, they can end up being killed for the meat trade.

Poodles Rescued by NoToDogMeat Charity

Thankfully, the NoToDogMeat charity came to the rescue when the grooming school that was closing dumped the poodles at a meat market in Liaoning Province, China.

Upon recovery, the dogs’ rescuers noticed that they were unable to bark, and a vet confirmed they had undergone a devocalisation procedure.

Removing a dog’s vocal cords is a cruel procedure, and people who perform such surgeries should not own pets. It is believed that the dogs annoyed the teachers with barking and noise, leading to their mutilation.

Dogs Recovering and Waiting for a Loving Home

The poodles, believed to be around two years old, and were rescued in a terrible state, having been kept in cramped and uncomfortable conditions between grooming school sessions.

The dogs have now found safety at the NoToDogMeat shelter in Hebei, China, where they are being taken care of and receiving proper treatment.

So far, 41 homes have been found for the rescued dogs, but the charity’s ongoing concern over the lack of regard for animal sentience has only been strengthened by this experience.

Devocalisation surgery is illegal in the UK, and the barbaric practice should be stopped altogether.

Every dog deserves to be treated as a beloved individual, and dog grooming crazes glamorized on social media do nothing to help with this.

Dogs are not toys and should never be treated as such.

Please share this article to make more people aware of the cruelty that animals face in the grooming industry, and to support organizations such as NoToDogMeat in their efforts to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.
