RNLI crew finally rescues injured puppy after terrifying 60 feet fall

A Terrifying Ordeal for Betty and Her Owner

A young cockapoo named Betty had a lucky escape after a six-hour ordeal in an isolated cove near Ilfracombe, Devon.

While out on a walk, Betty slipped her lead and fell 60 feet off a cliff. The 11-month-old pup suffered a broken leg and was left stranded on a small ledge unable to climb up or down.

A Coastguard team attempted to rescue Betty but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Bettyโ€™s owner, Karen Porter, recounted her terror at seeing her beloved pet trapped down in the cove.

She said, โ€œIt was terrifying having her stuck down there, but everyone was amazing. I canโ€™t thank the RNLI and the Coastguard enough, they were wonderful.โ€

RNLI Crew Comes to the Rescue

After hours of trying to rescue Betty, the Coastguard team called on the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for assistance.

The Ilfracombe volunteer crew arrived at the scene and immediately got to work. They managed to rescue Betty and bring her safely to shore.

Matt Parr, an Ilfracombe volunteer crew member, spoke of the relief he felt when he saw Betty safe on the beach.

He said, โ€œIt was a massive relief when we could see the dog on the beach and she looked OK. After a bit of difficulty calming her down, we got her into the boat pretty easily and she relaxed a bit.โ€

Betty on the Road to Recovery

Betty is now on the road to recovery after breaking her front leg and suffering cuts and bruises. Her vet says she is making a remarkable recovery.

This isnโ€™t the first time the RNLI has been called out to rescue animals. In fact, last year alone, the RNLI was called out 209 times to rescue animals, including 164 dogs, 27 dolphins, two deer, a rabbit, and even a snake.

Bettyโ€™s rescue is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the RNLI and Coastguard teams. Their efforts ensured that Betty was safely reunited with her owner, and she is now on the road to a full recovery.
