Every so often, we come across a story that tugs at our heartstrings, reminding us of the power of compassion and resilience. This story about the rescue and recovery of three adorable kittens is one such tale that will leave you inspired and moved.
The unexpected call
It all began when the rescuer received an unexpected call while shopping for groceries. A friend had found a tiny kitten, barely 4.5 weeks old, who had been turned down by the SPCA.
The kitten showed some problems with his hind legs but maintained a jovial spirit, purring and playing with his new guardian. He was quite chubby for his age, earning him the temporary nickname Football.
Just when they thought it was only one kitten needed help, two more were found – a female (orange) and a male (gray), who was even bigger than Football. Suggestions for names for these adorable furballs were welcomed!
A sudden twist
While settling into their new home, it was noticed that in addition to Football’s hind leg weakness, Birdie (the female kitten) started getting wobbly. Initial thoughts pointed to postnatal CH caused by exposure to panleukopenia.
Distemper tests were run on all three kittens after Birdie showed severe symptoms. The results confirmed that Birdie was indeed positive for distemper – a pet parent’s worst nightmare.
Despite the grim news, the rescuer remained determined to give them the best chance at survival. Over $1,000 worth of supplies were ordered to aid in their treatment and recovery process.
A journey towards recovery
The kittens’ human mom sprung into action immediately after receiving the distressing news.
She set up a camera to monitor them round-the-clock and meticulously cared for them despite having to wear gloves and a gown while handling them.
Incredibly though, through all this, these brave little souls remained affectionate and miraculously survived their ordeal.
A happy ending
The kittens made a full recovery,
After weeks of healing and isolation, they graduated from their recovery kennel and were happily prancing around their new home.
The once sickly kittens are now thriving cuddle-bugs who fill their home with love and purrs. Football has grown into an energetic mischief-maker while Whiffle loves to snuggle up in arms for sleep.
Birdie stays close to her human mom wherever she goes – even helping her crochet!
